McDonald’s, the globally renowned fast-food chain, is set to bring its iconic character Grimace to life with an exciting, nostalgia-laden celebration. The fast-food giant announced the launch of a unique Grimace Birthday meal, a venture that seamlessly combines the new with the old to resonate with customers across generations.

Starting June 12, McDonald’s fans can indulge in the Grimace Birthday meal, an innovative offering that includes either a Big Mac or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets complemented with fries. This marks the first time they have memorialized the iconic character in the form of a meal. However, the highlight of the celebration is arguably the introduction of a limited-edition purple shake, inspired by Grimace’s signature hue, underscoring the theme of the celebration and adding a unique flavor twist.

In addition to the meal, McDonald’s is pushing boundaries in its engagement strategy, announcing the launch of an exclusive video game created in collaboration with Krool Toys. Fans can virtually step into Grimace’s shoes in this immersive game, traversing classic McDonald’s birthday scenes in a thrilling quest to find his friends – including Birdie and Hamburglar – and slice his birthday cake. The game will be free to play on both desktop and mobile platforms, launching simultaneously with the Grimace Birthday meal on June 12.

The burger behemoth is not stopping there. A line of Grimace-inspired merchandise will also make its debut, giving fans a chance to take home a piece of the purple-themed fun.

McDonald’s Creative Initiative

In a bid to give back to society, McDonald’s is orchestrating a creative initiative in collaboration with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). On June 13 and 14, McDonald’s invites fans to share their favorite birthday memories on its Instagram story using the “add yours” sticker. For each shared memory, McDonald’s has pledged to donate $5 to RMHC, up to a generous $200,000, thereby turning fond recollections into a meaningful contribution.

Tariq Hassan, chief marketing and customer experience officer at McDonald’s USA, acknowledged the significance of this unique event. “Our fans have amazing childhood memories of their birthdays at McDonald’s and Grimace’s Birthday is all about paying homage to the amazing, fun moments we all share,” Hassan said in the official press release. “We’re excited to put a modern spin on these memories to continue to drive McDonald’s relevance with a new generation. Grimace is the perfect lovable icon to have McDonald’s meet our fans at the intersection of nostalgia and culture.”

With approximately 13,500 restaurants operating globally, McDonald’s continues to innovate and inspire, curating a blend of old and new that upholds its legacy while concurrently forging a path for future success. This latest endeavor underpins its commitment to engage customers, bringing smiles to faces and warming hearts, one purple milkshake at a time.
